NEWS:
* Festival Mushroom Records report that Amiel's debut album "Audio
Out" has gone gold with over 35,000 units sold. The album debuted
the ARIA chart at #17 in August last year. Amiel is currently on her second
promotional visit in Japan. "Lovesong" is currently sitting
at #2 on the Japanese airplay charts.
* Sydney's TPA agency and Bondi hard rock band COG have split. TPA's
managing director Owen Orford, says that TPA cannot give any more time
or resources towards fully promoting the band overseas. Other TPA clients
include Hoodoo Gurus, Grinspoon,The Dissociatives, The Living
End, Pacifier, Spiderbait and Killing Heidi. COG will soon start recording
a new album, and will play their only show in the near future at Wollongong
University O Ball in the Uni Bar on Thursday 4th March.
* "Push Over 2004" at Luna Park on Monday 8 March will see
the following acts playing: The John Butler Trio, Spiderbait,
Antiskeptic, Sunk Loto, TZU, Blood Duster and Tiltmeter. They will
share the stage with 10 young bands that have come through Push Start,
the statewide showcase for emerging bands with members under the age of
21. The winners of the 10 finals, chosen from 500 entrants include
the following: Dysprosium, Foist from Sale, Her Nightmare, Latchkey, Negative
Purpose, Left Right Out, The Vasco Era, Envy, Quarterlite and an act yet
to be announced from the Central Highlands Wimmera showcase.
* Midnight Oil are releasing live recordings on CD and DVD formats through
ABC/Universal in the first week of April. The set is called "Best
Of Both Worlds" and will include the CD and DVD features "Oils
On The Water", recorded on Goat Island in Sydney Harbour on 13 January
1985. The DVD also includes "Saturday Night At The Capitol",
footage from a 1982 concert at Sydney's Capitol Theatre. The show was
recorded by triple J and shot by filmmaker Dave Bradbury.
* The Butterfly Effect are playing an all-ages gig at the Palais Royale
Youth Venue, Newcastle NSW called 'Split Level' on the 5th March 2004.
They will be supported by Rubix Cuba, Equinibrium, Immune, The
Saxbys, For seen Fury and Settle The Score. Upstairs will feature 7 hip
hop acts. Doors open 6:30 - 11pm, $8 pre-sale $10 at the door.
* george will be performing live at the UNSW Roundhouse on Friday
27 February. Support acts include Dave McCormack and The Boat People,
and The Polaroids.
* With five albums under his belt, several Top 20 singles, numerous Tui
awards and the much-coveted APRA Silver Scroll, Greg Johnson has
earned the reputation as one of New Zealand's most prolific and talented
songwriters. He has been living in Santa Monica for the past 18 months,
but is on his way home for shows in Wellington and Auckland, in support
of a brand new album called 'Here Comes the Caviar,' due for release mid
March.
* Steriogram's new single Walkie Talkie Man was the seventh most
added single on Australian radio recently, including Triple M in Sydney
and Nova 93.7 in Melbourne. The Kiwi fivesome's debut album for Capitol
Records, Scmack, is due out in New Zealand and Australia in March - followed
by US, Canada and Japan releases in April.
* The Accelerants are supporting Fur Patrol this Friday Feb 27
at Bodega Wellington and Saturday Feb 28 Dogs Bollix Auckland. They are
also playing on Friday March 5 at Valve Wellington. The Accelerants' debut
album is near completion.
